Dirtbag Endorsed Artists create their own hot sauce

Dirtbag Endorsed Artists create their own hot sauce

"Chicken wings, hot sauce, beer and metal go perfectly together" says Josh Ringer, guitarist for Dirtbag Endorsed artists Knuckleduster. "It's definitely not for the faint of heart". When a friend gave him some Carolina Reapers, he knew he had to make a hot sauce.. one that was going to be hot, but also have a good taste. He got some other secret peppers and ingredients, tossed them into a blender, and out came the tasty fiery hot greatness that is Knuckleduster's "The Art of Indigestion" hot sauce. The sauce is branded in the name of the band's 2016 album, "The Art of Regression" available on Spotify. "I have a love for hot sauce- the hotter the better. I think most of the guys in the band do (except Chuck.. anything over mild lights him up)". If you can handle the heat, pick up your own bottle of "The Art of Indigestion" at any Knuckleduster show!

kaPOW! Dirtbag Endorsed Artists Create a Comic Book

kaPOW! Dirtbag Endorsed Artists Create a Comic Book

We can all agree that 2017 is a strange time to be alive. A time wrought with scandal and tragedy on what seems to be a daily basis. While we all carry different perspectives and ideas about the past, present and future, Dirtbag Endorsed Artists, SUBURBAN VERMIN have given an artistic take on our modern day of weird. "TV HEAD NATION" is the name of their first ever comic book series, and it is being released alongside some new music from the band, as well as some other goodies and add-ins. I had a chat with the band about the series.

So, you’ve created your own comic book series, and that automatically makes you cooler than 80% of all bands. Well done! Was any one of you responsible for the idea to create a comic series, or was it a whole-band concept?
The basic concept stems from a poster we had commissioned from artist Nathan Blu a number of years ago with the band depicted as super heroes. For our last record 'Headless Over Heels', we did a horror anthology comic with different artists for each song. For 'TV Head Nation' we we wanted to serialize the comic story as well as the music to match how music is consumed currently. There have been many contributions to the basic concept by the entire band and management, but the concept and stories were conceived and written by bassist/vocalist Jason Vermin. There also was some additional writing by Dan Rafter who has worked on the Gearz series.
What is the series all about?
Before the election last year when we started planning the comic series, there was a lot of fear about what the world would look like if the unthinkable happened. 'TV Head Nation' in a lot of ways is a reflection of a worst case scenario. There are some parallels that can be drawn to current events, but through a science fiction filter.
The series itself follows our hero Ramona trying to find her wife who has been abducted by an alien warlord and his empire. There are the band characters who help her out, but for the most part, it's Ramona who is the driving force behind the comic. You get the sense the more you read how evil can spread and how that effects the different characters and the world they live in.
How many books will be in the series, and what does the release schedule look like?
There are technically three comics in this series, with Issue #1 being double length. The first half of issue one was initially released for free comic book day as Issue #0, but they ran out so quickly, we didn't want anyone to pick up Issue # 1 and not have the full story as well as miss out on the songs that were included with that release. Issue # 2 will be released October 20th 2017. Issue # 3, we're hoping December, but at the latest January.
In addition to “TV Head Nation,” we are releasing “Zombie Bloody Zombie,” a Suburban Vermin short story that takes place before the events of “TV Head Nation.” That'll be out October 28th 2017 for Halloween ComicFest.
Who is the mastermind behind these awesome illustrations?
The illustrations are by Amy Fay, an artist out of the UK. She's been amazing to work with and instrumental to the success that we've experienced with “TV Head Nation.” She will be working with us on the next set of comics.
Have you considered shopping it around, or maybe bringing it out to Comic-Con next year?
There are pros and cons to having an imprint or company try and help or take over the Suburban Vermin comics. It's a lot like trying to find a record deal. You want to maintain creative control and not to have art decided by committee. The comics already have been a big boost to the music and we've gotten such a warm reaction. We're still relatively inexperienced in the comic world, but already we're getting some modest success doing things unconventionally.
As for comic conventions, we actually are stating to get into that scene. We're making our con debut October 21-22nd at the Central City Comic Con in Yakima, WA. They already have some great guests and are really enthusiastic with working with us.
Next year, we're going to be doing more conventions and balancing that schedule with our regular show schedule and with releases that we're planning for potentially this time next year. We're actively planning to expand our comic universe so right now we feel that conventions will become a big pillar in how we do things as a band.
And where can we buy this thing?!
If you're in the Northwest you can buy the first issue from Comic Hut in Renton, WA. You can buy digital copies of the comics for your tablets along with mp3s from our website. We're trying to workout a web solution for selling the physical copies online, but due to the nature of the project, we'd like to ensure that they reach people in good condition which can drive up the price for shipping with comics.
Another thing that all you Dirtbags can do out there is let your local conventions know that you want us there. We're really keen on getting on the road, playing for all of you and getting you our comics as our comic universe expands. We're really into contributing to the comic/geek culture instead of just using the comics as a gimmick for promoting the music. We also have trading cards that contain music, paper craft figures, board games, etc.
We're all nerds, for me this is combining pretty much everything I'm nerdy for into the band. It's all different ways to compliment the music.
Thanks for all the support!!

A New Gin Infused With Vintage Harley Davidson Parts

A New Gin Infused With Vintage Harley Davidson Parts

Are you tired of eating the worms at the bottom of your tequila? Are your pockets lined with cash? Do you love vintage motorcycles so much that you live, breathe and.. drink them? If you answered yes to all three of these- look no further. A new product has hit the market, and it was made just for you. World-class custom bike builder, Uwe Ehinger, AKA The Archaeologist, has recently released a new line of gin, 'infused' with actual parts from classic Harley Davidson Motorcycles. That's right- each vintage chic bottle comes with a pretty good-sized hunk of old engine floating around in it... the spirit of a Harley in your cup of spirit. We at Dirtbag Clothing think this designer gin is 'totally metal'.. and would love to give it a try. It comes in three revved up varieties:

  • For your entry level biker dude, the 1962 Panhead- weighing in at about $1060.
  • For the guy who is serious about drinking motorcycle parts, but is not entirely sold on this marveling concept, the 1947 Knucklehead- available at a cool $1175.
  • And lastly, the only gift worthy of kings, or maybe just the ruler of your bike club.. the 1939 Flathead- the true premium option at around $1300.
At prices like these, this gin is nothing to shake a camshaft at. A neat relic, as well as attention to detail are the biggest selling points here. Every bottle comes packaged with a fancy paper insert, printed on some 1930's printing press, bearing the stories of the engine parts enclosed.. I don't know about you, but I always like to know the true origins of the engine I'm sippin' on. Lastly, the burning question: is it safe for me to drink steel Harley Davidson components from the mid-twentieth century? A quick dive into the statements from the company says it is. Apparently the parts are specially cleansed and coated with some space-aged food-safe tin alloy... seems legit. The gin can be purchased at The Archaeologist's Website.

Brit rockers 'Two of Substance' to headline Liverpool's Cavern Club

Brit rockers 'Two of Substance' to headline Liverpool's Cavern Club

The U.K. has bred some of the world's most elite musical talent.. from the Beatles and Stones to Zeppelin, the Who, Sex Pistols, The Clash, and beyond - Something about world domination must go hand in hand with making kick ass tunes. Recently, I spoke with Dirtbag Endorsed Artists, 'Two of Substance' - a U.K. band with a new take on the classic tradition that is British rock and roll. G - Hello, and greetings from across the pond!! I recently got the chance to check out your new tracks on Spotify: ‘Feel a Sound’ and ‘I’m Getting By’ .. which make up in full, the little two-song snack which you recently released. Well done. You have dropped a couple of these little snacks recently- tell us about the thought process behind releasing music in two’s. 2OS - We have always believed in the idea of letting people become acquainted with some of our songs before we release them all together in a full length album. That way, the LP will be welcomed with both arms because people will trust what is already on it. There's nothing worse than a Band releasing an album which is full of songs that haven't already been promoted as Singles because it dilutes the audience's attention. We have our eyes and ears on both ends of the spectrum. G - How did you choose these two tracks to join together for this release? 2OS - For "Feel a Sound / I'm Getting By" specifically it was just a case of trial & error. We've released Singles with B-Sides, so we thought it would be kinda cool to experiment by releasing a Double A-Side Single. It's worked pretty well so far so we're made up with the results! G - Can we expect any more two-song snack packs from you this year? 2OS - Having released 4 Singles from our upcoming album, two B-Sides and a special VEVO release - I think we are more than satisfied with what is up for grabs now until album release day. We are stupidly excited for that! G - Somebody told us you have a pretty big show coming up.. and you’re the headliner? 2OS - Yes! Quite literally a dream come true because we are headlining The World Famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, birthplace of The Beatles and home to other legendary bands that have performed there. To even play there is an honour, but to be told we are headlining was like Christmas coming early! Wednesday 20th September at 7pm is when the doors open and we're gonna be playing songs off our album and throwing in a couple of covers as well, so we are bouncing off the walls for this! G - What can people see at a 2OS show that they might not get anywhere else? 2OS - Three people that have a truck load of passion and just want to have a good time. We all have a very unique sense of humour and sometimes that can slip out on stage if we are enjoying ourselves too much, but other than that, the major thing that sets us apart from other bands is our songs... because nobody else performs our songs. G - What is the weirdest thing that has ever happened at a 2OS show? 2OS - Oh God... well a few things spring to mind, but one we will say for now is when we were signing autographs after our set one time and this guy asked us to sign both his nipples and his belly button - which we did, because we are decent fellas after all.

Decent fellas they are! Keep an eye out on The Cavern Club Website to purchase tickets for the September 20th show, and be sure to follow Two of Substance!

ARTIST MICRO FEATURE - MEGADETH's SHAWN DROVER

ARTIST MICRO FEATURE - MEGADETH's SHAWN DROVER

ARTIST MICRO FEATURE SHAWN DROVER Dirtbag Clothing has afforded me the great opportunity to meet some spectacular musicians. Shawn Drover happens to be just one of those spectacular people. A few weeks ago Shawn calls me to say they are going to South America for some gigs and all his Dirtbag swag was in the “A-Rig” and they were taking the “B-Rig” and he asked if I could send an emergency shirt his way to rock South America…. HELL YEAH I said! I then asked if he would be my guinea pig for my “Micro Feature” I wanted to do for the new site and he said sure thing! Five questions short and sweet. I hope you guys like it. DBC: What are the differences from your studio kit vs. touring kit? And as a part 2 to that, what advice would you have for a drummer that just can’t take his entire kit on the road with him? (Advice on how to “edit” a drum kit?) SD: My studio kit is actually 1 of my touring rigs, as I have an A,B and C rig for each World tour we do. At the end of a World tour all 3 kits are in our recording studio, so its quite easy to have 1 of them set up for recording. As for advice on a drummer who can't take his entire kit on the road-Get in a band where you CAN take your entire rig on the road!!!!!! ;-) DBC: What’s the pre-show routine when it comes to your drum kit? SD: Honestly, I don't have any set pre-show warm-up, etc. before going onstage-We usually play 3-4 songs on our backstage rig before the show, so that along with some stretching and drinking lots of water is enough for me to be prepared for a show. DBC: Back up item(s) every drummer must have for a live gig? SD: Extra sticks, bass drum pedals and drum heads are important to have plenty of on the road, as they will all break at 1 time or another, so be prepared and have lots of extra in case something does break. DBC: Endorsements – every drummer wants to be endorsed and you know it’s not that easy. So what do you feel are the proper steps to take in reaching out to a company looking for those endorsements? SD: Endorsements are easier to get once you're in an established band, as most of them want you to play and showcase their product in a live setting and in the studio-Some musicians are purists though and feel no need to be endorsed by a certain musical company, which is commendable, certainly. Everything that I am endorsed by I would use anyways and in most cases have used for years. DBC: You’ve had a tremendously successful career that is still growing. So this is the proverbial knowing what I know now, back in the day I would have done __________________ (this) differently. Second question- Knowing what I know now, I wish I had this advice when I first started out in music?? SD: I am not sure how differently I would do anything to be where I was at this point of my life. Of course, I could always say "I wish i was successful at a younger age, but then who is to say I would still be doing this at my age if I was successful 20 years ago?? I just keep doing what I'm doing and am thankful I have been releasing records since 1996. Links: http://www.megadeth.com/content/shawn-drover Twitter: SHAWNDROVER
